If you saw green vegetable bugs on there earlier in the season it could be that they have been sucking on your tomatoes. It's pretty hard to tell without more of a description. They get hard lumps and don't ripen properly.
It make be a tomatoe mosaic virus . There are pictures on the Ag Dept website under Tobacco Mosaic Virus. If it is this then really it seems the only thing to do is to eat them. I have done and there fine, look a bit funny but still taste great, and maybe dont collect seeds from those affected plants.
These were plants from a newly developed vege bed. Nothing really took off there, not enough sun perhaps, and still trying to improve the soil.
We did eat them, they tasted ok and were small.
