farmers market
A Farmers’ Market bringing fresh food direct from the farm gate to the
community will begin on Sunday 11 May at the FERN site on the corner of
High Road & Montreal Street, Fremantle. Operated by
Western Farmer’s Markets, the market will take place each Sunday from
7.30am to 12.30pm.
The market will revive the age old tradition of direct trade between
householders and farmers in a community setting. This will be
a social celebration of all things good – food, family, friends, and
conversation.
Market Manager, Rachael Hogg, said “We have identified primary
producers who have grown, bred, caught, pickled, smoked or baked the
goods they will offer at their stalls themselves. This is a
very important element of the Market,” emphasised Rachael,
“People want to be able to purchase fresh produce on a weekly basis
direct from the producer who can share information about how it was
grown and how best to prepare it.”
- The Markets will offer a real food shopping alternative,
with;
- Access to freshly harvested, quality produce – including
organically certified and heritage varieties
- An opportunity to re-connect with “real” food, to learn
more about flavour, food preparation and environmentally sustainable
growing practices
- Re-generation of community spirit in a community space
- Strengthening the rural / urban partnership.
The Markets will showcase the best of Western Australian seasonal
produce - look out for lamb from Pingelly and just-picked
apples from Carmel, come summer think sun ripened strawberries from
Cowaramup and young lettuce leaves from Kirup….
